I’m in my sixties, and an exercise program is important to me for health reasons (I’m diabetic).  I wanted to get it right, so I decided to see if a personal trainer would work for me.  I had never worked with one before.  I had a couple of goals and a couple of issues, with core strength in particular, but I didn’t know what to expect.  With Julie, I got someone who listened carefully, took a good look at what I could and couldn’t do, and started me working right away on a program that got to grips with what I needed to do without putting me at risk of overdoing things.  Julie very quickly realized that I needed to walk before I could run, almost literally, and that many of my important muscle groups needed to be “reprogrammed” after fifty years of bad posture and neglect.  But she wasn’t in any way bossy or fussy about it, she just set about helping me learn what I needed to know, she never lectured or criticized, she is always positive and upbeat, never negative.  So many things impressed me about her – she knows so much about how the body’s various muscle groups work together, she has a real gift for demonstrating the exercises and then helping you do them properly, a lovely positive way of working with you that is so encouraging, and real integrity in making sure that what she has you doing is best for you.  She pays close attention to your health, and has lots of suggestions for ways to improve it.  When she saw how stiff my right shoulder was she sent me off to my physiotherapist.  My physio, who I hadn’t seen for a couple of years, looked at my chart and was amazed by how much progress I had made on improving my posture and the condition of my neck and shoulders.  She couldn’t stop congratulating me. That was after about six weeks of working with Julie!  When our first set of sessions was done I immediately signed on for another, and I will be back for more and more.  Julie has made a huge difference to my overall well-being.  And my right shoulder is now fine – for the first time in about 25 years.  I would recommend her to anyone, with no hesitation.

Julie worked with me over a period of several months as I trained for my first marathon. She gave me several exercises to improve my core strength, build up my running muscles, and prevent injury. I was sceptical at first, but kept at it and the exercises really helped. I learned a great deal in the process. Who knew strong glutes could help with knee problems like patellofemoral syndrome? I also enjoyed Julie’s positive energy and optimistic, can-do spirit. I am happy to say I not only completed my first marathon, I ran so fast I qualified for the Boston Marathon.
